Bangkok to host 9th WSPU General Assembly
BANGKOK, October 25 (TNA) - Thailand's National Legislative Assembly (NLA) will host the World Scout Parliamentary Union (WSPU) General Assembly 2018, the 9th of its kind, in Bangkok during November 12-14.
Thai NLA President Pornpetch Wichitcholchai held a press conference, together with two other senior NLA members, to announce the three-day 9th WSPU General Assembly, themed the "roles of parliamentarians in supporting youth and scout movement", which will be held at the Dusit Thani Hotel in the capital.
Pornpetch stated that the upcoming WSPU General Assembly 2018 is aimed to support the concrete development of scout activities in individual member countries on the sustainable basis.
Besides, the 9th WSPU General Assembly will become an international platform for member countries to discuss three major issues on the agenda, including the roles of
the parliament to create confidence in lifelong public learning in each member country, the WSPU support, through member countries, to achieve the United Nations
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 and the promotion of world scout and parliamentary activities as joint forces to deal with global challenges.
"We hope that the 9th WSPU General Assembly will result in the realization of global parliaments' potential to support the development of world scout activities on the sustainable basis and to build up global cooperation on relevant activities, including the endorsement of a joint resolution at the end of the three-day assembly, paving the way for practical and concrete practics of individual member countries later on", said the Thai NLA president.
The WSPU, which was established in 1991 and now has 103 member countries totally, held its first general assembly in 1994 and has had its key objectives of promoting national and global scout associations of member countries through their parliamentary channels in order to solve youth problems and help develop youths in member countries to become good and responsible citizens for the sake of their national harmony, peace, security and sustainable development.
