Bangkok hotel elevators fell after control system failure

BANGKOK, Feb 23 (TNA) -- An elevator control system malfunctioned and caused two elevators to fall at Maxx Hotel in Huai Kwang district of Bangkok. At the 25-floored hotel on Rama 9 Road, two of five elevators fell. The elevator No 2 was stopped between 16th and 17th floors and the elevator No 3 rested on the 24th floor. No one was in both elevators. All the elevator shafts stand in the middle of the hotel. Hotel staff used fire extinguishers to control fire on both defective elevator shafts where smoke was billowing out. Foreign customers ran from their rooms. Kittipong Chaiyasuwan, staff of Golden Express Co which supervised the elevators, said there was an electric short circuit at the elevator control board on the 25th floor and it affected elevator No 2 and 3. The elevator No 2 and its shaft were damaged. The inside of the elevator No 3 was damaged but its shaft was unscathed. The main electricity system of the hotel remained functional. (TNA)
