Bangkok to join World Car Free Day 2014

BANGKOK, September 8 (TNA) - As previous years, Bangkok will, again, join the international community in observing World Car Free Day 2014, set on every September 22. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) announced on Monday that the City Hall will organise activities marking the World Car Free Day 2014 on September 21. Among other activities, the BMA said, Silom Road, a major business route in the heart of the capital, will be closed for all cars from 8am to 6pm, turning the road into a wallway. The City Authority stated, however, that bicycles will be allowed to use the business road during the period, during which repair and bike ride teaching services will also be available. The yearly global event is aimed to promote the wider use of mass transit services and bicycles, as well as to save energy, reduce traffic congestion in cities and ease the global warming or climate change problem.
