Bangkokians assured sufficient water until August

BANGKOK, Feb 20 (TNA) -- Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra has assured people living in the Thai capital of enough water for consumption during this summer amid worries of severe drought in the country. Mr Sukhumbhand on Friday inspected tap water production unit of the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA) at Maha Sawat in Nonthaburi. He told journalists after the inspection that drought situation has become worsen in the past few years while demand for tap water has increased, forcing MWA to increase tap water production to meet demand of the people. BMA has dispatched four water pumps with the combined capacity of 80,000 cubic metres per day, enabling MWA's Maha Sawat water production unit to be able produce 1.7 million cubic metres daily and supply tap water to the western side of the Chao Phraya River and the inner part of Bangkok. The four water pumps have started operations since Friday until this August. There would be sufficient tap water for consumption until this May, he said, adding that people should help in conserving water during this dry season. (TNA)
