Barbed wire laid along Thai-Cambodian border to prevent illegal immigrants
SA KAEO, THAILAND, October 9 (TNA) - An over-165-kilimetre barbed wire row has been laid along the Thai-Cambodian border in Thailand's eastern Sa Kaeo province to block illegal entry of immigrant workers.
Thailand's Burapa task force on Tuesday laid the barbed wire fence, from the Thai-Cambodian Friendship Bridge to the Rong Klua Market, to block all natural and deferential border crossings used by workers from Cambodia to illegally enter into the Thai territory.
Those who wish to cross the border legally can, however, use the Baan Klong Luek permanent checkpoint in Sa Kaeo's Aranyaprathet district and three other checkpoints for border trade nearby.
Colonel Kukiart Srinaka, deputy commander of the Burapa Task Force, acknowledged that the barbed wire row will remain until agencies concerned come up with measures to practically prevent an influx of illegal immigrant workers from Cambodia, who are feared to, probably, lead to occupational and security impacts on local villagers and the nation, as Sa Kaeo's daily-pass policy enables Cambodian nationals to cross the border in the mornings to work in Thai farmlands and to return to their home country in the evenings.
