Bernama Celebrates Golden Anniversary Monday

KUALA LUMPUR, March 22 (Bernama) -- Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) celebrates its 50th anniversary Monday. In conjunction with the occasion, the agency has organised a ‘Jubli Emas Bernama’ dinner, to be held at Dewan Perdana Felda Monday night. In the same function, appreciation awards in various categories would be presented to those who had contributed to and supported Bernama over the years. Former staff of the agency who had attained success would also be acknowledged. Bernama was established under a Parliament Act on April 6, 1967 and officially launched on Aug 30, 1967, in conjunction with Malaysia’s 10th Independence Day celebration. The agency commenced operations on May 20, 1968 with its first news report on its launch by then Information and Broadcasting Minister Senu Abdul Rahman. Currently under the Communications and Multimedia Ministry, it has more than 1,000 permanent and contract staff as well as stringers in the country and abroad. In its 50 years, Bernama has expanded its wings at domestic and international level in the delivery and sharing of news through various platforms such as Bernama.com, Bernama News Channel (BNC), Bernama Radio and the latest, Multimedia Desk. Articles and exclusive interviews on Bernama were also part of the icing to coat the agency’s golden jubilee, aside from the 10,000 printed special Bernama corporate stamp that is being sold at 60 sen each. -- BERNAMA
