BJA president hails support to press law

Manama, Feb. 26(BNA): Bahrain Journalists Association (BJA) President Ahdeya Ahmed Al-Sayyed backed the stance expressed by Council of Representatives Speaker Fawziya bint Abdulla Zainal and Information Affairs Minister Ali bin Mohammed Al-Romaihi, who supported the issuance of a contemporary and enlightened media law. She underlined the royal directives which were issued by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa, urging cooperation to fast-track the promulgation of an enlightened and contemporary press law. She hailed the stance of the Speaker who worked for years in the media and spared no efforts in this vital sector. She also paid tribute to the Minister of Information Affairs, lauding his support to the national press to meet the aspirations of the reform project and democratic process. She underscored the importance of the new law which would bolster the rights of all journalists, paying tribute to HM the King who extends keynote addresses on the annual World Press Freedom Day and Bahrain Press Day, backing the issuance of a press law that consolidates responsible media liberties and keeps abreast of impressive IT and cyber strides. The BJA chief urged all journalists working in media institutions and social media platforms to back the issuance of the press law and step up coordination and cooperation with the Council of Representatives and Shura Council.
