BJA welcomes diplomats’ visit to Reformation and Rehabilitation Centre

Manama, May 4 (BNA): Bahrain Journalists Association (BJA) has praised the outcome of the visit made by several ambassadors to Bahrain to the Reformation and Rehabilitation Centre upon an invitation from the Ministry of Interior. The envoys were the ambassadors of Oman -the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Bahrain-, China, Germany, United Kingdom, France and Italy, the US Chargé affairs, the Official of Consular Affairs at the Russian embassy, the Head of the European Union delegation residing in Riyadh, the Head of Mission of the International Organisation for Migration and the Acting Resident Coordinator of United Nations activities. BJA President Ahdeya Al Sayed said the visit gave the diplomats the opportunity to be briefed on all the precautionary measures and services provided to the inmates, which reflects the transparency of the Ministry of Interior and the Rehabilitation centre about how the inmates’ rights are protected. "The centre abides to the Reformation and Rehabilitation Law and rules and today's visit conveyed and reflected the efficiency in providing inmates the best services during the current Covid 19 situation that has affected the whole world,” she said. Al Sayed added that the envoys' visit also gave representatives of different countries the opportunity to see how the Interior Ministry enforces the law and protects human rights in its daily work. "The extraordinary situation with covid 19 has made the work of every sector more challenging and these visits are great opportunities to share with the international community Bahrain’s success in handling the pandemic while protecting human rights at all times. It is a source of pride for the country that inmates have had free and optional COVID-19 vaccinations, in which 100% of registered inmates were vaccinated." Al Sayed added that transparency was also achieved with the Reformation and Rehabilitation Centre being open for human rights organisations, including the National Institute for Human Rights, the Ombudsman and the Prisoner and Detainee Rights Commission that had made announced and unannounced visits to ensure that inmates received the stated services.
