BOC celebrates Bahraini Women's Day

Manama, Dec. 3 (BNA): The Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) has joined other government and private entities in celebrating the Bahraini Women's Day.

HRH Princess Sabeeka had announced the theme of the Bahraini Women’s Day 2018, dedicated to honouring women in the legislative field and municipal careers.
A special gathering, held at the BOC premises and attended by the committee women’s staff, was in recognition of the Bahraini women's efforts in all areas. The event recognises Bahraini women's achievements in a different sector
Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, the BOC and Women's Sport Committee Chairwoman Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa was the patron of the occasion.
During the event, Shaikha Hayat paid tribute to women for the crucial role they have played in this vital sector for more than 50 years. She expressed her happiness six women have reached the parliament council while four made it to the municipal council recently.
She also thanked HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty the King's Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, and BOC President, for his unlimited support to women's sport, Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Vice-President of the BOC, and Secretary General of the BOC Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar for their efforts.
Bahrain women’s involvement in municipal work goes back to the 1920s when they took part in the first municipal elections held by Bahrain then.
The theme was also chosen to celebrate 20 years since Bahraini women entered the appointed Shura Council, and 15 years after their access to the elected Representatives Council and municipal councils.
