Boosting cooperation with regional, international parliamentary organisations stressed

Manama, Dec. 13 (BNA): Acting Secretary General of the Representatives Council, Dr. Yasser Saqr Al-Shirawi, praised Bahrain’s active role in promoting regional and international relations through parliamentary diplomacy. He stressed the kingdom’s efforts in fostering regional and international peace and security as well as adopting initiatives to serve humanity. This came during a meeting today with Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Martin Chungong. They discussed ways of boosting cooperation between the Secretariats General of the Representatives Council and IPU. Al-Shirawi underlined the significance of promoting cooperation with IPU as well as regional and international institutions and parliaments regarding issues of common interest. For his part, the IPU Secretary General thanked the Representatives Council Acting Secretary General for the meeting, commending Bahrain’s democratic and parliamentary experience thanks to the directives and care of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He also lauded the royal efforts to foster tolerance, coexistence and equality among all social components. The IPU Secretary General underlined the importance of his visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain to get informed about its parliamentary and democratic experience. He pointed out the kingdom’s rich experience in this respect and in protecting human rights. He affirmed keenness of the IPU Secretariat General in building solid relations with the legislative branch in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
