Brainstorming on lifelong human development

BANGKOK, October 22 (TNA) - Thailand's Education Council on Tuesday organized a brainstorming on lifelong human development to meet the demand of labor markets and to, among other purposes, respond to the ASEAN Community (AC), set to be formed by 2015. Education Council Secretary-General Sasithara Pichaichannarong opened the brainstorming workshop on the issue, in which representatives of 25 agencies discussed a plan on the lifelong human development. Under the plan, people aged 0-5 years will be prepared for their development and learn foreign languages; while academic subjects will be reduced and they are to, instead, learn about morality, disciplines, hygiene and skills in music, arts and computer use. At the age range of 5-14 years, people will undergo physical, mental and intellectual development, build up vocational knowledge and problem-solving and living skills, as well as explore their aptitude and interest. At the age of 15-21 years, people will adjust their career learning, be encouraged to learn foreign languages, like Chinese, Russian and Korean, and be developed to be the AC's workforce. At the age of 15-59 years, people will enhance their capabilities to compete with foreign workers and learn about saving to prepare for their life after retirement. For retirees, they will learn about their appropriate living conditions, optimism, relaxation and brain exercises for their longevity. (TNA)
