BRN demands not yet accepted
BANGKOK, August 23 (TNA) - The Thai government has not yet accepted any of five demands recently aired by the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) insurgency movement.
A meeting of the Thai government's committee tasked with implementing policies and strategies to solve problems in the violence-plagued Thai far South, held in Bangkok on Friday, came out with the resolution.
Army Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha told journalists after the meeting that the committee did not accept any of the BRN's five demands, as the panel had not yet consider whether decisions on the demands would require the consent of the Thai Parliament or any court.
Besides, General Prayuth acknowledged that any demand considered unconstitutional can not be accepted, and that the Thai government will no longer consider any proposal or demand the BRN may, again, communicate via the YouTube or Facebook sites, but all topics are to be discussed on the negotiating table.
The army chief insisted that the Thai government has never been at a disadvantage or has been defensive in its negotiation with the BRN.
According to the army commander-in-chief, the 4th round of negotiation between the Thai government, through the National Security Council (NSC), and the BRN will happen next month, but its date has not yet been set, urging all parties to give their morale support to local security authorities who have done their best in the insurgency-plagued Thai deep South.
