Buffalo quarantine after some die of rabies
SURIN, Aug 14 (TNA) – The Department of Livestock Development orders buffalo quarantine in Surin and vaccination for villagers, exposing to the disease.
The department’s director-general, Sorawit Thaneeto updated about the report of baffaloes, contracting the rabies in Surin’s Kap Choeng district that four baffaloes died in the area. Two of them were confirmed to die of rabies.
The first buffalo died suspiciously after it was bitten by a rabid dog three months ago.
The provincial livestock office stepped up measures against the outbreak.
The rest of the buffaloes in the same herd have been quarantined and disinfectant was sprayed all over the places. Vaccination campaign has been launched in the five-kilometre radius.
Villagers, who ate the meat of the dead buffaloes or exposed to the disease by contacting with the animals’ saliva have been called in to receive vaccines. (TNA)
