Cabinet exempts entry, exit fees for migrant workers during Songkran holiday

BANGKOK, March 27 (TNA) - The Cabinet exempts entry and exit fees for migrant workers from Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos to travel home for the celebration of Songkran festival from April 5-30. Assistant government spokesman, Col Athisit Chainuwat said migrant workers, who hold pink cards identification of their non-Thai status and their children aged below 18 can leave the country during the period free of charge and they must return within April 30. Moreover, the Cabinet also extended the deadline of migrant worker registration process from March 31 to June 30 to allow about 880,000 unregistered workers to complete the processes. According to the Labour Ministry, there are about 1.6 million migrant workers and only about half of them or 820,000 people have been registered. However, the rest of the migrant workers must submit documents for the registration at the Labour Ministry’s One Stop Service centers across the country or at Bangkok and provincial employment offices by March 31. Then, they will receive documents, giving them more time to complete the remaining processes such as seeking medical certificates within June 30. (TNA)
