Cambodian workers flock home to celebrate Songkran
SA KAEO, April 9 (TNA) - Ten thousand of Cambodian workers throng the Aranyaprathet checkpoint to return home for the Songkran celebration as the Thai government waives entry and exit fee for migrant workers from April 5-30.
Hundreds of cars and vans on Sunday carried a large number of Cambodian workers to the border crossing. Cambodian Poi Pet town governor dispatched Cambodian officials as interpreters to the Aranyaprathet border checkpoint to assist Thai officials.
This year, it is estimated that more than 100,000 Cambodian workers will travel home through the checkpoint here during the Songkran holiday.
Meanwhile, immigration officials at Ban Laem border checkpoint in Chanthaburi and Cambodian officials facilitate Cambodian workers to travel home.
At least 80,000 workers are expected to travel home through Ban Laem checkpoint. More workers are expected to return home this year as they have no problem to travel back to work in Thailand after they are properly documented. (TNA)
