Cameras installed to catch drivers, changing lanes illegally
BANGKOK, May 9 (TNA) – The police today start issuing tickets for motorists, who flout the rules when changing lanes at bridges and underpasses as cameras were installed at 15 sites in the capital to capture violators.
The lane change camera system is aimed at reducing road accidents and address traffic woe.
Initially, the camera system was installed at 15 locations, where a number of motorists switch the lane, cutting in front of other vehicles, causing traffic congestion.
The most problem was reportedly seen at the flyover at the Government Complex on Chaeng Wattana Road, followed by the Din Daeng intersection and the bridge over the Bang Khen roundabout.
At each of all 15 sites, four cameras will run automatically 24 hours and warning signs are placed at three different distances before the motorists reach the spots where their vehicles will be captured by the high definition cameras, linked to the traffic police head office.
Violators face a maximum fine of 1,000 baht, which can be paid at Krung Thai bank’s ATMs, KTB netbank or places, informed in the tickets.
During the test of the camera system last month before the new measure is put in place today, the police found 226,257 violators or about 7,542 cases per day. (TNA)
