Cassation Court rejects appeal in espionage case

Manama, Jan. 28 (BNA): The Court of Cassation rejected the appeal lodged by Ali Salman against the life in jail sentence issued by the High Appeals Court in November, Advocate General Osama Al Oufi said. Ali Salman and two other defendants were convicted on charges of establishing foreign intelligence connection to commit hostile acts against Bahrain to damage its political, economic and national interests and topple the Kingdom’s constitutional regime. They also disclosed defence secrets to a foreign country for financial gain and willfully propagated false rumours to tarnish the Kingdom’s reputation. The Court of Cassation session was held in public in accordance with the provisions of the law, and in the presence of the defendant and his attorneys.
