Cassation Court rejects defendant's appeal

Manama, Oct. 3 (BNA): General Advocate Haroon Alzayani said the Court of Cassation today considered the objection raised by the secretary-general of one of the political societies. The defendant had earlier been convicted and sentenced on several counts to incarceration terms totalling nine years for committing the crimes of promoting forceful overthrow of the political regime, threats, incitement of disobedience and instigating hate against a specific set of people and defamation of an official agency in public. The Public Prosecution demanded the court to turn down the defendant's appeal for suspension of his penalty implementation. The Court of Cassation ruled by rejecting the defendant's penalty suspension appeal, retaining the case until issuance of its verdict during the court's session on 17 October.
