China's Xinhua joins Yonhap's Winter Olympics news sharing platform

SEOUL, Feb. 2 (Yonhap) -- China's state-run Xinhua News Agency on Friday became a member of Yonhap News Agency's news sharing service for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics. The Chinese company sent a signed letter on its joining of the PyeongChang News Service Network (PNN) early in the day. This increased to 54 the number of overseas news outlets that are a part of the network. Last month, Yonhap formally opened the service, which allows overseas subscribers to share news on the Olympic Games, as well as other events happening on the Korean Peninsula, on a real-time basis. PNN members have access to not only Yonhap's articles, photos and video clips in Korean, English, Chinese, Japanese, French, Arabic and Spanish, but also those of fellow members, without signing separate agreements. Members can also upload their content to the platform without limitation. The company plans to use the platform even after the Olympics. The 2018 Winter Olympic Games are scheduled for Feb. 9-25 in PyeongChang, some 180 kilometers east of Seoul in Gangwon Province, and two adjacent sub-host cities. sshim@yna.co.kr (END)
