Chinatown festivities to usher in Chinese New Year

BANGKOK, Feb 6 (TNA) – Chinatown or Yaowarat will usher in the Year of Dog with festivities from midday to midnight with arrays of Chinese traditional performances and Chinese cuisine on Feb 16-17. A Chinese opera, adapting the story of Ramayana Indian epic in Chinese version with Chinese drum show and lion dance will be part of a special show at the event. The organizing committee said this year also marks 80 years of the establishment of the Tao Chew Association of Thailand and the Chinese New Year celebration will be held under the theme of prosperity and good luck in the golden dog year. Moreover, lines of food booths will offer authentic Chinese cuisine from famous restaurants during the two day event. MCOT HD will broadcast live the opening ceremony at Yaowarat, presided over by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on Feb 16. (TNA)
