Clean public toilet campaign at tourist destinations

BANGKOK, Feb 2 (TNA) -- The Tourism and Sports Minister has launched a campaign for clean public toilets at tourist destinations to boost tourism. Tourism and Sports Minister Weerasak Kowsurat launched the campaign at the 2nd bus terminal of Phitsanulok province in Phitsanulok provincial seat. During the launch ceremony, he introduced the “WC OK” sign that is used to certify clean and safe public toilets at tourist destinations for tourists’ confidence. The Tourism Department reported that 30.29 million foreigners visited Thailand in 2016 and the country generated 1.55 trillion baht of tourism-related income then. Last year 32.5 million people visited Thailand and spent 1.69 trillion baht. Given the increasing number of foreign tourists, Thailand must prepare good facilities to welcome them and the facilities include public toilets at tourist destinations. The campaign targets public toilets at bus terminals and train stations. It focuses on the Hua Lamphong railway terminus in Bangkok representing the Central Plain, the 2nd bus terminal of Nakhon Ratchasima province (the Northeast), the 2nd bus terminal in Phitsanulok province (the North) and the Hua Hin train station in Prachuap Khiri Khan province (the South). Officials will encourage tourism-related operators, general people and tourists to help keep public toilets clean there. (TNA)
