Climate Affairs Envoy holds virtual meeting with UK counterpart

Manama, Apr. 27 (BNA): The Special Envoy for Climate Affairs and Chief Executive of the Supreme Council for Environment, Dr. Mohammed Mubarak bin Daina, held a virtual meeting with Dr. John Murton, the UK government’s Envoy for the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26). The British Ambassador to Bahrain, Roderick Drummond. Participated in the virtual meeting, which discussed the preparations for the upcoming climate summit (COP26), set to be held in Glasgow, Scotland. Dr. Bin Daina lauded the long-standing Bahrain-UK friendship relations, stressing Bahrain’s keenness to push joint climate action forward, and stand by countries that support the Paris Climate Change Agreement. The two sides exchanged points of view regarding ways to enhance cooperation in the field of climate action, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the expected results of the negotiations, the ways to ensure the success of COP26, as well as the acceleration of climate action, including mitigation and adaptation. COP26 Regional Ambassador Middle East and North Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Janet Rogan, commended Bahrain’s efforts to adapt to the climate, calling for transferring its experience that has been widely appreciated by various organisations to other island states.
