Concert of traditional Japanese music

Almaty, June 26, 2009 (Khabar) - Almaty has witnessed the Japanese traditional music concert with “Tsuru To Kame”. The music band showed their skill of playing a three-stringed musical instrument called shamisen and the taiko drum. The name of the music band was originated from the text of the national song called “The dance of crane and turtle”. Currently, the musicians are on tour, as a part of the cultural exchange between Japan and Central Asia.

Masihiro Kamamoto, head of Japanese embassy branch in Almaty:
- At the end of the last year the residents of Tokyo were able to participate at the Kazakh culture festival with the Kazakhstan’s musicians showing their music skills. Due to this event many Japanese people got acquainted with your culture. I hope that in the future we will have more possibilities to organize such events.

The day before the concert the Japanese musicians met the students of the Kyrmangazy Kazakh National Conservatoire and found out that musical instruments of the two countries have a lot in common. For example, the professional dombra player was able to cope with shamisen. Although wind instruments and drum also have a lot in common, its instrumentation differs a lot.

Abzal Arykbayev, member of “Turan” ethnographic folklore band:
- They were very amazed by our music. To compare, their music is softer but ours is very loud and martial. And we were very amazed by the fact that thy women were singing accompanied by drums.

Sigeri Kitsu, performer of “Tsuru To Kame” music band, Japan:
- We are to try to cope with dombra and we believe that we will succeed. We are to take this instrument to Japan for memory about your country. We found out that Kazakhstan has deep musical root and grateful listeners.

Spectators liked the joint impromptu performance of both Kazakh and Japanese musicians very much. Dombra and shamisen, taiko and dandra were sounding in unison without any rehearsal.
