Constitution Court rejects petition to nullify Feb 2 election

BANGKOK, February 13 (TNA) - Bangkok's Constitution Court has rejected a petition of a Democrat Party member for the nullification of the February 2 general election. The Democrat Party's member, Wirat Kalayasiri, earlier asked the Constitution Court to nullify the February 2 national poll. Wirat also asked the court to consider Section 68 of the 2007 Constitution and rule whether Caretaker Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, her Cabinet members and their associates took unconstitutional efforts to acquire national administrative power. The complainant elaborated that the February 2 general election did not happen on the same date and, thus, should be an unfair election, and that the government’s imposition of the emergency decree resulted in the advantage of candidates of the ruling Pheu Thai Party in the February 2 general election. In response, the court ruled that the complaint did not present a case of any unconstitutional effort to acquire national administrative power regarding Section 68 of the constitution; therefore, the court could not accept the complaint for trial.(TNA)
