SATUN, (Thailand), June 3 (Bernama) -- The Crown Prince of Malaysia's northernmost state of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail has called on the authorities and people of Thailand to help the Malaysian authorities in tackling cross-border criminal activities. According to him (left), border issues such as human trafficking, especially involving foreigners, fishing boats encroachment and smuggling were global issues, which could be tackled more effectively with greater cooperation between Malaysia and Thailand. He said this at a MAIPs (Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council) ‘Ziarah Ihya Ramadan’ to Satun Province with Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) at the Bukit Bunga Mosque here. Tuanku Syed Faizuddin, who is also MAIPs president, was accompanied by Raja Puan Muda Tuanku Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil on the trip which was his third visit. Also present were MMEA Northern Region director First Admiral Zulkarnain Mohd Omar, MAIPS chief executive officer Mohd Nazim Mohd Noor, state and federal department heads, vice-chancellors and rectors of higher learning institutions in Perlis. According to Tuanku Syed Faizuddin, threats of rising terrorism and militancy and smuggling of weapons throughThailand into Malaysia could be prevented through greater enhancement of Malaysia-Thai cooperation (photoBERNAMA). -- BERNAMA
