Cultural achievements of Kazakhstan

Astana, December 18, 2009 (Khabar) - Kazakhstan’s culture which is referred to as a multi-sided, bright and made up of traditions of different nationalities is the main visiting card of the Republic. Such a treasure managed to be preserved and enlarged thanks to the Cultural Heritage programme. Kazakhstan’s Capital city, Astana is one of the symbols of Independent Kazakhstan with the Kulyash Baiseitova National Opera and Ballet Theatre referred to as Astana’s main attraction. This year, the Astana National Academic Library is also celebrating its anniversary. With the support of the Ministry for Culture and Information, the National Library has summarised the results of the work done this year and implements new projects. An electronic library is one of them.

- When we attend some international conferences and tell foreigners what our government has done for culture over the past years, they are all amazed at it. We have held an international reading congress where we raised the issue of reading all over the country. Thanks to the government’s support we have launched the electronic library project. We have already created the single network of republican libraries. We wouldn’t have launched it without the government’s assistance really.

Over 6 thousand culture organisations including libraries, theatres, cinemas, houses of culture and museums are in operation in Kazakhstan. Over the past three years, the sphere of culture has enlarged by another 200 institutions.
