Customs of Korean Nation on January 15th of Lunar Calendar
Pyongyang, February 6 (KCNA) -- The January 15th of the lunar calendar is a holiday in Korea to see the first full moon of a year.
The day falls on February 8 this year.
The Korean people have enjoyed the day as a folk holiday since the period of the Three Kingdoms (early 3rd century B.C.-middle 7th century A.D.).
On the day of every year, they used to play various sports and amusement games like kite-flying, whirling pinwheel and tug-of-war and share specially-prepared foods with each other, including boiled rice with four other staple cereals, sweet rice dish, red-bean gruel and dishes cooked with nine dried herbs.
On the evening of the day, ancestors would play with lanterns while enjoying the first full moon. -0-
