Dam continues to release water during Songkran
NAKHON RATCHASIMA, March 13 (TNA) -- Lam Takhong Dam in the northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima will continue to release water during the upcoming Songkran festival, Thailand’s traditional New Year, although water stored at the dam is now at the low level, said Suthiroj Kongkaew, director of the dam.
Dismissing press reports that the dam would stop releasing water during the festival which falls between April 13 – 15, Mr Suthiroj said water stored at the dam now is 76 million cubic metres, equivalent to 24.19 per cent of the total capacity, and less than 40 million cubic metres from the corresponding period last year.
Currently, Lam Takhong Dam releases 432,000 cubic metres of water daily for mainly consumption of people living in five districts of the province.
Mr Suthiroj said people living in the five districts have been informed to help saved water as the dam will continue to release the same amount of water in March and April until the rainy season starts later this year. (TNA)
