"The Dancer" And "Rectoverso" To Be Screened At Cannes Festival

London, May 13 (Antara) - Two Indonesian movies, "Sang Penari" (The Dancer) and "Rectoverso", will be screened at the 66th Cannes Films Festival in France on May 15 to 26, 2013. The Dancer (released 2011) which is directed by Ifa Isfansyah was also listed in the Competition Cannes Senior category, said the head of the tourism and creative economic ministry`s film exhibition and festival sub-directorate, Molly Prabawaty, here on Monday, "While the `Rectoverso` will be screened on European Premier at Antipoedes section in Cannes Cinephile 2013," she said. The Dancer was based on the trilogy of novels "Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk" (The Dancer of Paruk Village) by Ahmad Tohari and directed by Ifa Isfansyah. Starring Nyoman Oka Antara and Prisia Nasution, it tells the story of a young man and his friendship with his small village`s new "ronggeng" (dancer). The Dancer also touches on the history of communism in Indonesia, focusing on the nation`s communist party spreading its ideology and the government`s purge of the Communist Party`s members from 1965-1966. Meanwhile, "Rectoverso" (released 2013) was an omnibus of five stories about the multiple facets of love adapted from a short story collection with the same title from author Dewi "Dee" Lestari, and published in 2008. Soaked in five heart-felt sound tracks, also written by the author, the movie tries to elaborate the emotional landscape behind the silence through five anthology "Malaikat Juga Tahu" (Angel Knows), "Firasat" (Premonition), "Curhat Buat Sahabat" (Stories for My Best Friend), "Hanya Isyarat" (It`s Only a Sign) and "Cicak di Dinding" (Gecko on the Wall). Those anthology were directed by five Indonesian actresses, including Marcella Zalianty, Rachel Maryam, Olga Lidya, Happy Salma and Cathy Sharon. Besides The Dancer and Rectoverso that were listed in main stages of Cannes screening, Indonesia will also promote 50 other movies which will be screened at the booth of "Indonesian Cinema du Marche du Film" during the Cannes Festival, Prabawaty explained. Prabawaty added Indonesian film that had awarded with Cannes Palm d`Or was "Tjoet Nja` Dhien" as the Best International Film category in 1989. While "Daun Di Atas Bantal" (the Leaf on Pillow) was screened in Un Certain Regard session in 1998 and "Kara, Anak Sebatang Pohon" (Kara, a Tree`s Child) was screened in Quinzaine des Realisateurs session in 2005. The Cannes International Film Festival is an annual film festival held in Cannes, France, which previews new films of all genres, including documentaries, from around the world. Founded in 1946, it is one of the most prestigious and publicized film festivals in the world.
