Death toll from powerful quake in eastern Turkey increases to 601

ANKARA (A.A) - October 30, 2011 - Turkey's disaster management authority said on Sunday that the death toll was 601 following a massive 7.2 magnitude earthquake that hit the eastern province of Van last Sunday. Turkish Prime Ministry Disaster & Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD) said that as of 6 p.m. today, the death toll was 601. The directorate said search and rescue efforts had been completed in downtown Van, however relief efforts were underway at two spots in Ercis town.
