Declining fatalities from public transport accidents

BANGKOK, Jan 5 (TNA) -- The Land Transport Department chief expressed gratitude towards transport officials and partners for effectively reducing losses from public transport services during New Year holiday. Sanit Promwong, director-general of the department, said that there were nine accidents of public transport vehicles during the 7-day New Year holiday, up by one accident from the same period in the previous year. The accidents killed two people, compared with 13 in the 2017 New Year holiday, and injured 28 people, up from 20 people year on year. There was not a speed limit violation among public transport vehicles. The ratio of fatalities to the number of public transport accidents in the latest New Year holiday dropped to 0.22, down by 1.67 points from the 2017 New Year period, Mr Sanit said. He presented honorary plaques to 25 New Year road safety partners including the Office of Vocational Education Commission that checked the conditions of public transport vehicles for public safety before the New Year holiday.
