Deputy Premier chairs meeting

Manama, Nov. 21 (BNA): Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Construction and Infrastructure Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa directed the Works, Municipality Affairs and Urban Planning to turn the goals of the agricultural development strategy in Bahrain into a comprehensive measurable programme that is consistent with the sustainable development goals (SDGs) so as to achieve food security in the kingdom.
The Deputy Premier was speaking as he chaired at Gudaibiya Palace today the meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Construction and Infrastructure, in the presence of the committee members and officials from relevant ministries and government bodies. Part of the meeting was focused on discussing the present and future of the agricultural sector in Bahrain.
The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that despite the obstacles facing the agricultural sector in Bahrain, it has many factors of strength enabling it to grow and thrive. He underlined the importance of the sector and the need to ensure its sustainability, pointing out the government's support to it. He also asserted the need to exert more efforts to develop the sector and boost investments in it.
Bahrain occupied the sixth place at the Arab level and came 41st internationally, among 113 other countries in the Global Food Security Index that was issued in October 2018 and which takes into consideration three main factors: food availability, quality and safety.
