Deputy prime minister’s visit to Aktau
Aktau, October 28, 2009 (Khabar) - The issues of increasing Kazakhstan’s role in the exploration of the Caspian Sea shelf has been discussed today at a sitting involving the deputy prime minister Serik Akhmetov in Aktau. At present, a draft of a special law is being examined in parliament. This will enable increased responsibility for foreign subsurface user companies, reported the deputy premier Serik Akhmetov.
Serik Akhmetov, Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan:
- Kazakhstan is a market economy and we wanted to confirm once again that we’ve always respected the rules of international trading and will continue doing so. We will be supporting domestic commodity producers within the context of modern conditions through placing the largest possible volume of products provided their quality is compliant with international standards.
The government of Kazakhstan will be rendering assistance to local enterprises in the production of high-quality products. It is planned to allocate 100 billion US dollars for this purpose. The weak potential of the coastal infrastructure of Kazakhstan’s sector is considered to be one of the central problems in the region. According to specialists, this is the reason why the majority of orders for the production of sea equipment are placed abroad. It is necessary to boost the development of coastal infrastructure and associated services to create favourable terms for investors.
Todd Levi, general director, Tengiz - Chevroil:
- This year TChO has achieved high index on spends of Kazakhstani support, about 1 billion dollars. And our strategy is directed to creation of new opportunities, new powers for local companies.
Serik Akhmetov also familiarized himself with the course of the “Road map” program’s implementation and the preparations for the winter heating season in the Caspian region.
