Detained five Thai students in Pakistan arrive home safely

BANGKOK, June 25 (TNA) - Five Thai students who were arrested and detained by Pakistani authorities on charges of carrying a pistol and cartridges earlier this month have been released and arrived home safely. Foreign Ministry Spokesman Sek Wannamethee, who is also Director-General of the ministry’s Department of Information, told journalists of the update, saying that the five Thai students arrived in Thailand on early Thursday. The spokesman stated that the five students were released by officials in Lahore, the capital city of Pakistan's Punjab Province, on June 22 and they boarded a plane on Wednesday night. According to the spokesman, all the five students are in good health and good spirit. The five students were apprehended on June 8 by Lahore International Airport's officials after one of them was found carrying a 9mm pistol and cartridges before boarding a flight to Thailand. Their release was made possible after Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha expressed his concerns and ordered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to look after the students and to make sure that they received justice.
