Divan of Attar published with new calligraphy and illumination

TEHRAN,Sept.1(MNA) -- A version of the divan of the Persian poet and mystic Farid ud-Din Attar (c. 1145-1221) has recently been published with new calligraphy and illumination. The divan comprised of Attar’s odes was printed in a 710-page volume using nastaliq calligraphy, calligrapher Mohammad-Baqer Jafarzadeh told . Iranian publisher Ketab-e Aban commissioned him to calligraph the poems. Each page contains 14 verses which have been embellished with illuminations by Marzieh Erfani, who has also created miniatures based on stories from Attar’s poetry for the book. Attar is mostly famous for Tadkerat al-Awliya (Memoirs of the Saints), and Mantiq at-Tayr (The Conference of the Birds). He also wrote Asrar-Nama, Mosibat-Nama, Elahi-Nama, Mokhtar-Nama and Khosrow-Nama. Jafarzadeh also plans to write books of other Persian classical poetry such a Divan of Hafez, Sadi’s Bustan and Gulistan and Rumi’s Masnavi-e Manavi. He is a senior member of the Association of Iranian Calligraphers.
