Don't Just Attract Domestic Tourists - Sabah Chief Minister

BELURAN (Sandakan, Malaysia), Oct 15 (Bernama) -- Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman wants ethnic-based cultural programme organisers to think of ways to attract not only domestic tourists but also foreign visitors. When the tourism potential and uniqueness of each ethnic group is maintained and developed, it will contribute to the socio-economic improvement of the people in terms of jobs, training and businesses, he said. "The state government always welcomes and continues to support such programmes because they are an important platform to strengthen the spirit of unity among the various races. "At the same time, they could preserve the culture and tradition of the different ethnic groups in the state," he said when launching the Ampalud De Padau or Boat Racing at Muara Beluran Square here, Saturday. The event organised by Persatuan Bangsa Tidong Sabah has become a traditional sport and an annual event in Beluran. Meanwhile, in KINABATANGAN, Musa called on the private sector and non-governmental organisations to play their role in empowering the culture and heritage of the ethnic groups in the state. He cited sponsoring of programmes to promote the uniqueness of ethnic groups in the state, and making the endeavour as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility. He said this when opening the Pesta Damas 2016 organised by the Persatuan Bangsa Sungai Sabah (SABAS) in Kampung Sukau, here. -- BERNAMA
