Dozens of Myanmar migrants nabbed for illegal entry to Thailand

RANONG, THAILAND, January 20 (TNA) - Thai authorities have nabbed 43 Myanmar migrants for illegal entry at a border area in the Thai South. Colonel Santi Sakultanak, Commander of a special unit at the 25th Infantry Regiment, under the Thep Satree Task Force overseeing security along the common border between Thailand's Ranong Province and Myanmar's Kaw Thaung Township, reported on Wednesday that his unit, together with Ranong's immigration police and police officers of adjacent Chumpon Province, arrested the 43 Myanmar illegal migrants, 34 of whom are men and the rest are women, while inspecting the border area in Baan Lak Lek of Chumphon's Pato District on late Tuesday night, following intelligence reports that there would be an illegal entry of some Myanmar workers. The commander told journalists that the Myanmar migrants were charged with illegal entry into Thailand after the authorities found no legal travel documents with them. The commander said initial questioning found that all the Myanmar nationals traveled from Myanmar's Kaw Thaung Township and its vicinity and planned to further sneak to a third country, arranged by a group of both Thai and Myanmar brokers whom they each paid 19,000 baht for the service. The illegal Myanmar migrants have been sent to Ranong's immigration office for prosecution. (TNA)
