Dozens of RKK members surrender to Thai authorities

BANGKOK, September 11 (TNA) - Some 100 members of the armed Ronda Kumpulan Kecil (RKK) group turned themselves in to Thai authorities on Tuesday. Army Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha said the surrender of the RKK members should reflect Thai authorities' successful solutions to violent unrest in the country's far South and should show that local people have increasingly trust government authorities and disagreed with insurgents’ killing of innocent people. General Prayuth acknowledged that negotiations have been continued with the RKK members, and that there are many groups of people in their movements, both proponents and opponents, with those disagreeing with violence wanting to defect. According to the Thai army chief, the profiles of the 80 people would be examined after they surrendered, as some of them may be under criminal prosecution or may be on a list of unrest perpetrators.
