Drunk drivers brought for tour at morgue

SI SA KET, April 23 (TNA) -- Si Sa Ket probation officers brought a group of drunk drivers arrested over the just past Songkran holidays for a tour at the morgue under court orders, the first group to be punished with such sentence. Director-general of the Si Sa Ket Probation Office Natthakarn Hemadthiti led a group of 60 convicted drunk drivers who were arrested over the Songkran festival for a 2-hour tour at the hospital. Since this the first time that such punishment has been meted out, it is an orientation for those under probation, where the first hour of the tour consisted of a lecture by physicians, nurses, and hospital offcials. The group were then divided into smaller groups to visit the different wards, including those with severedly injured patients, and patients with disabilities caused by road accidents, before visiting the morgue. All of the suspects had cooperated well with the officers during the tour, as it was aim to show the suspects the brutal consequences caused by drinking and driving, while hoping the meausure would help convicted drivers to change their behaviour for the better. Director-general of Probation Department Pol Col Narat Sawettanan said on Monday, the Yasothorn Probation Office would also being taking a group of 40 convicted drunk drivers for a tour at the Yasothorn hospital, where the suspects would be given the chance to donate blood to help others to repent their misdeed. Other probation offices around the country are also planning to take the drunk drivers for a tour at each area's local hospitals targeting to make motorists who like to drink and drive think twice about their actions.
