EIT engineers to take a week for removal of collapsed Hopewell beams

BANGKOK, March 5 (TNA) - The Engineering Institute of Thailand under the Royal Patronage (EIT) said on Monday that engineers need a week to remove the wreckage of a section of Bangkok's unfinished Hopewell train system which collapsed late last week. EIT President Suwat Chaopreecha told reporters when leading a team of engineers to inspect the collapsed section of the Hopewell elevated train system in the capital's Chatuchak District that his team would have to dissect the 1,000-ton concrete wreckage into 70 pieces prior to removing them, which should take about a weekใ According to the EIT chief, the inspection helps determine whether the still-standing concrete beams can be reused for the construction of Thailand's extended Red-Line elevated train system from Bang Sue in Bangkok to Rangsit in the capital's outskirts.
