Embassy confirms two apprehended suspects are Iranians
BANGKOK, February 25 (TNA) - The Iranian Embassy here has confirmed that two suspects who were arrested and have been detained in Thailand for allegedly involving in a spate of three bomb blasts on Sukhumvit 71 Road in the Thai capital on February 14 are Iranians.
Foreign Affairs Ministry Spokesman Thani Thongphakdi said Saturday the Iranian Embassy to Thailand has confirmed that the two men, identified as 28-year-old Saeid Moradi, who lost both legs from his own explosive device, and 42-year-old Mohammad Hazaei are Iranian nationals.
Thani, who is also Director-General of the ministry's Department of Information, told journalists that the Iranian Embassy had insisted, however, that the duo had no connections with the Teharan government and any other Iranian organisation.
According to the spokesman, the Iranian Embassy is now coordinating with concerned Thai government agencies to provide necessary consular assistance to the two Iranian men.
Regarding to a request for the Malaysian government to send the third suspect in the February 14 bombing incidents to face charges in Thailand, the senior Thai Foreign Ministry official acknowledged that the official document has already been sent through the Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur since February 23.
The third Iranian suspect is identified as Masoud Sedaghatzadeh, who was apprehended and has been detained by Malaysian authorities in the Malaysian capital since February 15, after fleeing to neighbouring Malaysia. (TNA)
