Ethiopian Airlines Launches Addis Ababa-KL Flights
SEPANG (Selangor, Malaysia) Nov 1 (Bernama) -- Ethiopia national carrier Ethiopian Airlines has commenced its three-flight weekly service on the Addis Ababa-Bangkok-Kuala Lumpur route and vice versa.
The plane made its maiden landing at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 6pm on Wednesday and received a warm welcome from Transport Minister Kong Cho Ha and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad chief operating officer Abd Hamid Mohd Ali.
The flights will run every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday via Boeing 767 with more connections to be introduced from Kuala Lumpur to Africa in future.
"We hope this service will enhance bilateral relations and trade between Malaysia and Ethiopia," Kong said.
Ethiopian Airlines chief executive officer Tewolde Gebremariam said the airline was pleased to be the first East African carrier to fly to Kuala Lumpur, connecting Africa to the Asian region.
"We have big plans to bring as many Africans as possible to Malaysia as KLIA is sandwiched between Bangkok and Singapore," he said.
