EU-ILO praise Thailand for its efforts to solve IUU problems
BANGKOK, March 18 (TNA) -- The European Union (EU) and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) expressed their admiration toward Thailand for its intentions to seriously solve Illegal Fishing (IUU) problems in line with international standard.
EU Ambassador and Representative in Thailand Jesús Miguel Sanz said after the signing of an agreement on Combating Against the Unacceptable Forms of Works in the Thai Fishing and Seafood Industry with the Thai Labour Ministry and ILO that Thailand has shown clear intentions and ambitions in solving IUU and its related problems, as well as to eradicate all forms of illegal works.
He said Thailand has presented a clear cut change in adjusting its operation frameworks, while noting that the EU and Thai government have always been working closely along side and so the recently signed project would help to benefit all sides.
The EU ambassador stressed the Labour Ministry would act as a coordination point between all concerned parties, including the industrial sector, labours, employers, while also integrating all the works of all relevant agencies to solve the problems, not only in Thailand but everywhere else in the world to help lift the quality and rights of the labourers.
Acting Director-general of ILO in Thailand, Cambodia, and Lao PDR, Maurizio Bussi, meanwhile, said the agreement is an initiation of turning words into actions under international standard, which would be completed through integrated efforts.
He said by having the Labour Ministry at the helm, results of the operations should be clearly visible within a year. (TNA)
