Felcra Aims To Supply Halal Food To Japan Ahead Of 2020 Olympics

ALOR SETAR (Kedah, Malaysia), Nov 4 (Bernama) -- Felcra Berhad (Felcra) intends to explore the scope of new business through marketing activities and supply of halal food products to Japan, as the country prepares to host the 2020 Olympics. Its chairman Bung Mokhtar Radin said he was contacted by a large company from the Land of the Rising Sun, with a view to work together to get halal food products that could be offered by Felcra such as sardines, tuna and chicken. "The food products are required in large quantities, so we will have to see how to meet their demand," he said after attending the Northern region level 50th anniversary celebrations of Felcra here, Thursday. Also present were Felcra's chief executive officer Zulkarnain Md Eusope and Northern Region general manager Wan Mokhtar Wan Muda. Bung Mokhtar said Felcra had already taken the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) to the sardines and tuna processing plant in the Philippines to obtain the halal certificate, so there is no problem for the agency to supply halal food. Meanwhile, Bung Mokhtar said through the halal food industry and real estate, Felcra is expected to earn a profit of US$23.83 million (RM100 million) per year starting 2018. "This is because, before this FELCRA was struggling to make a profit due to falling prices of rubber and palm oil," he said. He said since FELCRA was incorporated in 1997, more than US$1.4 billion (RM5.9 billion) in dividends had been distributed to 110,420 participants nationwide. Federal Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (FELCRA) was established in 1966. Its objective is to develop rural sector by helping its community to participate in national economic activities, thus improving their standard of living. -- BERNAMA
