Festival of snow and ice opened in Harbin

Harbin, January 08, 2010 (Khabar) - International Festival of snow and ice is opened in Harbin city in northeast China. It is held for the 24th time and attracts thousands of tourists from all over the world. This year, more than two thousand giant compositions will be demonstrated, 150 thousand cubic meters of ice and 100 thousand cubic meters of snow were used for their creation. Most of the ice creations are not just for watching, here you can sit down and slide down the hills or a stroll through the palace, which shimmers all the colors of the rainbow. According to organizers, the festival, which will last for three months, is scheduled for more than 100 different events. In particular, there will be contests of snow and ice sculptures, which will be attended by dozens of teams from different countries, competition in winter swimming, a variety of shows for tourists. Harbin, which is also called "city of ice", is located in one of the coldest places in China, where winter temperature drop to 40 degrees. The first festival of ice and snow was held here in 1986. Gradually, a small ski marathon turned into an event of international level with a rich and diverse program.
