FIFA president meets PM

BANGKOK, April 29 (TNA) -- In his meeting with FIFA president Gianni Infantino at Government House in the afternoon of April 28, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha praised the world football governing body for its support for the sustainable development of football. He also sought FIFA support for the development of football in Southeast Asia. Mr Infantino visited Thailand to take part in the Football Association of Thailand's 100th anniversary celebrations. Gen Prayut thanked him for the visit, congratulated him for his assumption of the FIFA presidency and foresaw the further development of football under his administration. Mr Infantino expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and said that he was aware that football was a popular sport in Thailand. Both happily acknowledged the 91st anniversary of ties between Thailand and FIFA. On the occasion the prime minister sought FIFA support for the football development in Southeast Asia. It includes plans for comprehensive sports training centers and knowledge transfers. The prime minister also said that his government was supporting football well. The FIFA president promised the support and also asked Thailand to play similar roles in Southeast Asia. He said that Thai football had much progressed regarding the Thailand men's national football team being among the 12 teams in the final round of the World Cup qualifiers in the Asian zone and Thailand women's national football team going to the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2015.
