Finnish education expert exchanges know-how

BANGKOK, Dec 2 (TNA) -- An education expert in Finland, considered as the world’s best educational system, has exchanged ideas and know-how with a Thai school. Panyapiwat Institute of Management Demonstration School (SATIT PIM) in Bangkok on Friday cooperated with the Finland embassy in Thailand in organising a seminar entitled ‘What the world can learn from education change in Finland’. Guest speaker Pasi Sahlberg who joined the seminar conveyed his notions and educational experience with teachers of SATIT PIM. Mr Sahlberg said during the seminar that schools in Finland give an opportunity to every student to equally learn while teachers pay attention to each student because each of them come from different backgrounds. Also, Finnish schools have laid out a strict screening in which school teachers must at least possess a master’s degree, said Mr Sahlberg. Each school in Finland has a full freedom in arranging syllabus and its students are allowed to share their ideas in laying out the syllabus, he said. School homework is not vital and students are required to focus on what they have learned during the classroom, Mr Sahlberg said, adding that more homeworks are not considered a good thing for the students.
