Five more deaths in southern flood

SONGKHLA, Dec 3 (TNA) – Five more flood-related deaths were reported in southern provinces while severe flooding continues to hit the region on Sunday, officials said. Four persons were found drowned in Songkhla as the province’s seven districts including the business district of Hat Yai have been affected by flood. Houses and farmlands are under water and the situation has deteriorated because of high tide. More than 2,500 water buffaloes are in trouble because grass fields have been flooded for almost a week and their owners have to move the buffaloes to the roadside, officials said. Some 90 owners of water buffaloes have asked for urgent assistance from the government officials. In nearby Phatthalung province, a man who was missing two days ago was found drowned in Khuan Khanun district, officials said. They said a total of five districts lying near the lake in Phatthalung are now flooded and people from more than 300 families have temporarily moved to stay at temporary shelters on the road. Flooding in some areas is about one metre deep, forcing villagers to evacuate from their houses, officials added. (TNA)
