Five Vietnamese nabbed for pickpoketing at Lady Gaga concert

BANGKOK, May 26 (TNA) - Five Vietnamese -- two men and three women -- were arrested early Saturday while they were about to board a plane at Suvarnabhumi International Airport for home on charges of stealing and pickpocketing fans attending a concert of pop superstar Lady Gaga, said Pol. Lt. Gen. Winai Tongsong, commissioner of Metropolitan Police. The five arrested persons aged between 22 to 43 were apprehended along with the seizure of 32 cellphones, a digital camera, and American and Thai currencies amounting 500,000 baht in total while they were checking in at the airport, Pol. Lt. Gen. Winai said. Their arrests were made after police received complaints from fans attending the concert of Lady Gaga at Bangkok’s Rajamangala National Stadium on Friday night that they were pickpocketed. Some owners of stealing effects were able to identify their belongings while the Bangkok police chief was giving the press conference. Police said the five arrived in Bangkok on Thursday evening and planned to return to Vietnam early Saturday. According to police, the five had visited Thailand on April 12 or during the Songkran festival, Thailand’s traditional New Year, and returned home on April 17. Police believed they made the similar crime during the visit. Pol. Lt. Gen. Winai said he believed some Thais must have joined this gang as an unidentified Thai contacted police by telephone during the interrogation and tried to bribe police in exchange for the release of the five.
