Flood hits Phetchaburi

PHETCHABURI, Nov 23 (TNA) – Communities in Muang municipality of Phetchburi province have been under water after a damage release massive amount of water following heavy rain. The Phetchaburi dam today releases 350 cubic metres per second of water into the Phetchaburi River to accelerate diverting massive water into the Gulf of Thailand, which is expected to be finished by Saturday. Meanwhile, the water discharge from the dam caused floodwater in the Muang municipality to increase to about 16-40 centimetres deep Thursday morning. One of the major roads, Ratchadamneon Road is under 16-40 centimetres of water and remains passable. Local residents were earlier told to brace for flooding. They placed sandbags to prevent water flowing into their house and moved their belonging to higher ground. The authorities installed water pumps and devices to speed up water drainage in flood-affected areas and prepared two evacuation centres. Villagers said so far, the water situation was not as bad as last year’s flood. (TNA)
